I ran across this little novel at a friend's house and after reading the first couple pages, decided to pick up my own copy at the library. The art was amazing in this book and I loved the story.
Blurb: In 1987 Miami, 15-year-old Shira dreams of old-fashioned adult glamour. Her reality is a lawyer father distracted by a new relationship with his secretary, an outspoken Jewish grandmother, and mean classmates. Shira is painfully aware of how uncool she is. Her best friend is her grandmother's contemporary, Minerva, a former actress who talks about the old days. The story follows the life-changing turning point in a girl's life as Shira learns to make her own choices and let go of her father, and she comes out the stronger for it.
